How to Market on Twitter
If you don't already have a twitter account, you will need one. Period. Twitter is a massive phenomenon where you can network with people at an incredible rate and offer your products and services while making lasting relationships. Twitter is the google of people, and allows you endless supplies of INTERESTED leads.
But marketing on twitter can be done properly, or really badly. The purpose of this article is to give you some tips on how to market on twitter effectively.
Marketing on twitter needs to be done right. Remember, Twitter is only a tool. Your marketing efforts will be based on your relationships with people, and moreover, which people you are marketing too. Telling thousands of people about your products where only a few of them are actually interested is a waste of not only their time, but yours as well. You need quality leads to sell your products and services, not just *anyone*.
Here are a few suggestions on how to market on twitter properly.
1) Know your business and customers
Knowing what you are selling and who will buy it is one of the most important aspects to marketing. This includes Twitter. If you don't know these fundamentals then you are driving blind. Once you understand what you are selling, and why people will be interested, you will be able to identify potential "warm" leads for your business. These are leads that don't know about your products and services, but are within your target market, and will potentially want to know more. Once you understand your business and who your customers are, identify key phrases that people might use to find your products and services. These keywords will be very important in using twitter properly. For more information, please see this article.
2) Create a Twitter Account
Creating a twitter account is easy. Simply go to Twitter.com, and select the sign in link at the top. There are three very important aspects to your profile that you will need to ensure are in your profile. These are:
- Photo (it is preferable to have a good picture of what you are branding. It is recommended that this is a picture of YOU, since you are your best brand.
- One line BIO - make sure you put in keywords that people are interested in, not those that you like!
- Background - Your background image should have contact information, and should look good.
3) Search for other Twitter members that would be interested in your products and services
Searching for other users that would be interested in your products and services is easy. Simply go to http://search.twitter.com/advanced and put in the phrases you identified in #1 above. Another option is to go to http://www.twellow.com and do the same thing. Each will allow you to find people that have "tweeted" about what you are selling. Remember... you are looking for interested BUYERS, not other sellers who will compete with you.
4) Begin interacting with your customers, and close your sales
The first thing you should do when you identify a potential lead is to send them a direct message asking them if they are interested in what you have to offer. Keep your messages short and sweet and to the point. If they are, they will tell you and will become "hot" leads.
