Relationship Marketing
Once you have setup a few social networks, such as facebook, linked in, and in particular, twitter, you are now on your way to spreading the word. On face value, these social networks look merely like a place to put up your profile, and make a few friends. They are indeed so much more, particularly when used together to build your network of customers. Setup your profiles as professional as you can, yet keep them quite friendly and open. You want your leads/friends to engage with you, so tell them about yourself. Make it as interesting and attractive as you can. Anything you can do to add a little mystery can also work for you.
The next step is to automate your postings. Twitter is one of the best tools in the world for this. By placing a 140 character status (or micro-blog), you can reach all of those that you are connected with on twitter. But this is only the tip of the iceberg. There are many services available that will take your twitter status, and also post the same message to most of the social networks. This is where the power comes in.
Step 1: Register a profile on more social networks
Time: 1/2 hour daily
Create a profile on as many social networks as you possibly can. The more, the better.

Step 2: Sign up with Ping.fm
Time: 1/2 hour
Ping.fm is a website that allows you to post to many social networks (including twitter) all at once. Simply sign up to ping.fm, and start adding networks using their dashboard. If you have skype, or another supported IM chat application, you can even open a chat window with ping.fm, and broadcast your message to all your social networks. This will be one of your most powerful tools in your toolchest.
